my 16.2 gelding can be a bit of a handfull when i lead him down the long track to my field i tack him up over my friends yard then walk him back to my field, but soon as the other horses from my fiends field come running over or he see my other horses he gets a bit silly i was seeing if anyone would give advice on the parelli halter or the dually halter i have two different people showing me how to use them just wondered how anyone else got on with them and what one would be best or do they work the same,

I don't do (or like) PNH but have used the dually.

The dually is useful if you use it correctly and get the correct timing for the pressure/release. I have found, though, that the actual groundwork is the key and if I do use the dually don't really use the schooling rings anymore (sometimes for long reining but we now long rein off the bridle anyway) and just use it as a regular headcollar.

The dually is good quality and can be useful but I'm not sure that I would buy one again, not for my horse and situation anyway. I'd concentrate on the groundwork as it is that which solves the issues and not the kit IMO.

I have a Parelli halter and the pressure knots can work very well. I don't like the dually halters or the way they work at all..............................

I don't like the action of the dually - I much prefer the Parelli type because unlike the dually they're not pressure halters and don't close in around the horses head.

Yep, you make that quite clear at every available opportunity that arises.....but the OP wasn't asking for opinions on PNH was she......

And in the words of JG " Someone pass the bute"....:D

I have leading issues with my horse when there are other horses around. Basically he ignores me and would trample on me to get to the other horses. :o Do you keep your horse in a herd?? Just a thought as this was my main problem with my cob.

No gagdet whatsoever helped me when leading in anxious times. However I am trying Clicker training now. So far so good. I will let you know when things go pear shaped... :D

i would personally try using a soft dog chain and old lead rope clip that attatches to one side of the headcollar and threads over the nose and the leadrope attatched to the end. This has a similar pressure system as the dually and releases easily. It seems that you have some leading problems and to buy a dually or parrelli halter would be alot of money (£45) then a dog chain only costs £2! Please don't be put off by the fact it is a chain. if you have a soft chain (i.e rounded links) it is very kind and only acts when the horse plays up anyway. if you were going to have a stream of problem ponies or were going to do alot of pressure long reining etc than i would suggest the dually but i'm not very familiar with the parrelli. The dually i feel is more flexible to the discipline you are working for.

p.s. If your stuck in the feild and you feel your horse might play up, just loop the leadrope from the offside over the nose than above the nosepeice, through the cheekpiece. this just gives you that extra control and is good for an emergency if stuck with nothing else. hope it helps.
