If you've seen a very good farrier do a 'pasture trim' or the horse has amazingly good feet already that just needed a bit of length taken off then there might not be a huge difference.

A 'pasture trim' usually refers to a trim for a horse that's only wandering around in a field, keeps the feet from getting too long but leaves enough to nail on to should the horse need to be shod. What exactly is done varies a lot.

Some of the major differences that are quite typical are - a pasture trim is often done with the wall flat rather than rolled as in a barefoot trim, less flare is taken off in a pasture trim as sometimes the amount of flare taken off when a horse is barefoot can thin the areas needed for nailing to if the horse is going to be shod, most barefoot trims balance to live sole plane or at least use the sole and other markers on the bottom of the foot whereas a lot of farriers balance using a T-square type of approach (heels perpendicular to cannon bone).
