Hey guys,
Just wondering how do you do a worm count? Would like to do one to Oranzi considering she is so contaminated with worms I would like to know how much, even though she has been wormed 2 days ago.
Cheers

You take a manure sample to your vet or mail it to a lab.
They will count the eggs for you. :)
Here's a link (http://www.horsemenslab.com/)to the lab I am using. They have some info on how it's done and what is 'find-able' and what is not.

is there any possible way of doing it yourself?

I run this sevice in the UK and it probably is possible to do some kind of test yourself but I would not rely on it. The main reasons are: A test done without putting the sample in a centrifuge will not pick up many worm eggs and will be too dark to see. Also it takes practice to interpret what you are looking at and what it means. Your best bet would be to find an Aussie lab to send tests to. If you find a good one please let me know as we are trying to develop links with other countries.

I just sent a sample to my vets, it came back within a few days and was only about £10

That sounds like a good idea. I will still let you know if I find any labs in Aussie.
Oh and please don't let "Rescued a horse from Slaughter today!!" thread die I am still updating it but it seems I have lost all my readers?
Will be posting new pics of Oranzi on that thread within the next couple of days.
Cheers Rabbits
