I was wondering, what is the point of putting studs in your horse's shoes?????
What do they do??

They're used for grip basically, there's loads of different shaped studs you can buy depending on the hardness/softness of the ground.
Some shoes can take just one stud and others two or three........:)

Our Joe has tungsten tips on his shoes - to grip on the road, he's such a spindly devil!!! Some folk use studs for XC.

Yep - they're used for grip.
I don't really use them at home but then I never jump on grass at home unless the ground is good! I wouldn't ever be without them when jumping in competition on grass! I'd also maybe use them for dressage if I thought we might slip.

I use them for eventing. Dressage is always on grass, horse is usually buzzing & trying to work in a 20x40m area can turn into wall of death! He tends to lose his footing behind without studs so I put little ones in. If the showjumping is on grass I'll usually put studs in too but where you really need them is xc - you really have to motor on & cut the corners if you're going to make the time on a cob so studs are a must to avoid slipping up!
