Hi,

Someone asked me the other day whether I'd heard of any qualifications in horse management. I only know a little about the BTEC National that you can do (our local college runs the course) but I couldn't think of anything else other than the BHS stage exams. Does anyone else know of any or have you got any suggestions as to where to look e.g. websites, books etc.?

Thanks!

Some colleges run NVQs at various levels. There are also ABRS exams, srtucture is slightly different to BHS but same idea.

There are many many exams you can do at colleges with horses.

Here are some-

BTEC First Diploma in horse care (I have this),
City and Guilds National Certificate in horse management,
BTEC National Diploma in horse management,
Higher national certificate in horse management,
Higher national diploma in horse management

Some colleges do equine science or horse breeding.

NVQ's are city and guilds. I have level 1 and am working towards level 2.

There are also BHS and ABRS exams.

Hope that helps!:)

Thanks to you both. All these courses sound really useful. Does anyone know of any way to get more details on the web or find out about colleges that do any of these courses? Are there any lists on the web or anyything? I am happy to ring them bu I'm rather busy at the moment so I wondered if I could get basic info on the web. It means that I could give out printouts to interested students (I teach biology). Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks!

depending on whereabouts in hampshire you are, it might be worth contacting kingston maurward college in dorchester. they run the training scheme that our students are on, which is workplace based and they do nvqs and stages, and they do diplomas and college based courses. they'd know where else you could talk to if you're the other side of hampshire.
