Maybe a forum for people to swap hacking routes etc.... :)

May be a good idea, but it would be diffucult to see where people are from without going into profiles as some people's home town is not displayed with their user name. Just a thought!

Good point but then maybe people could start their posts with the area(s) that they are interested in....? Or if someone has a route they wanted to share they can just include the name in the title...?:)

Good idea, but security would be an issue.
For example, you see a photo of a nice horse on here/young girl and decide you want them, they post what routes they regularly hack on and you know where to look.
It'd be great if we didn't have to think about that aspect, but unfortunately we do.

Hacking routes don't have to be where you live though. I quite regularly box off to other areas and go exploring - I'd find it quite useful to swap that kind of info (parking places, terrain, etc).
We've got quite a few ride reports and training routes on our local EGB website that we run, and you wouldn't be able to ascertain anyone's regular hacking routes or location of their horses from them. They're just a useful resource.

There are sites which do that sort of thing already and are set up for that purpose, with all sorts of things searchable eg area, route length, gradient, type of surface etc etc
With the one I am thinking of, routes are sent in to the site's webmaster who then puts the route into a standardised format so there is no telling who suggested the route from the style of writing. In addition, members on that site's forum don't have profiles or searchable details of any sort, so that anyone looking at the site with ulterior motives wouldn't have the foggiest idea whether a route had been suggested by a 6ft 4" ex-commando or by a 12yo girl... and they might just get a nasty surprise if they hang around a suggested route waiting for people to ride by, thinking they are bound to be kids on ponies!

Hi - Yes I have looked on those websites, there's one I think called bridlepaths.co.uk but I live in Sussex and there's not one route listed! And there are hundreds of routes near where i live alone - it's horse mental in my area :) I think the security thing is of course a bit of an issue but then as has been said, there's no need to mention where you live and if there was some sinister perv / horse thief who wanted to prey on hackers, surely they would know where the bridlepaths were anyway if they were that way inclined

Then please, PLEASE go to the site, join up and put the routes you know on it! It relies on contributions from people who know and ride in an area; it is linked from a lot of really quite prestigious official and quasi-official websites, and it could be the route YOU submitted that someone chooses for their first visit to your area!
