its jorjis last year of being a youngster this year( hes nerly 3) so want to do quite a few shows this year (only local , fun shows) but just wondering would it be ok to show him in a reeealllly nice leather headcollar and shwow lead instead of a bridle ? i know your not SUPPOSED to but locally would it make a dramatic difference ?

Honestly? Yes it would, it's would, just like if you entered a ridden class with a bareback saddle pad.

If the reason you don't want to use a bridle is because you don't want to bit him, you can get inhand bridles without a bit, like a foal slip (with browband and throatlash), or if hes an m&m or traditional type you can use a white halter.

If you can get a bridle with a bit it is more correct for his age, and you will have more contro (which can be lacking with youngsters at shows!). Your welsh cross should also be in a bridle, since he isn't a pure bred welsh.

Good luck at your shows, I might see you around as I'm in Wiltshire too.

yeh i mean ive been showing jorji since he was 6months old (in foal slip, then onto in-hand bridles ) and he loves it just to get out have a look around and he always loves the rossetts  :p

Yeh i mean puzzle (the welsh x) is always shown in a proper bridle anyway but i just bought it coz it looked nice really  tend to do alot of that !

I'm near Salisbury.

I'm not going to those particuar shows. I'm away at uni at the moment, so my showing season starts a bit later than it could if I was at home. I've got a couple of youngsters to bring out this year, so I'll be looking for smaller, quieter shows with lots of room!
