I know nothing about studs - so im educating myself!
What studs/if any would you use for specific conditions?
- Roadwork
- Jumping on hard ground
- Jumping on wet grass
- Fast work
- etc etc
What do you plug/clean the holes with? Do you put studs in by hand?
many thanks :)
(sorry if this comes out twice - Im getting a load of error messages tonight)

roadwork....... dont
hard ground...... pointy studs
wet................ fat studs got lil and big ones!!
well studs is fast work as for xc for me ........well and sj and dressage if bad ground.
scooby has 2 behind in each shoe....... hes not close by anymeans behind so i dont worry bout catching himself but as a precasion i dont put big ones on inside really. He cant have infront due to sidebone.
Dennis has all round.
Use a tap thing to put in.
Use cotton wool myself......... tried the metal things but stones wecked the thing so u cldnt get the allen key in! there are also the rubber bung things but cotton wool works fine for me :)

i use them for road work and mainly jumping (theyve made a hell of a difference my pony jumps with soo much more confidence ).the farrier puts them in for me but i cant remember how much for :o think its a couple of pounds:eek:
i used to use the little cotton wool stoppers but im trying rubber ones at the mo as i try to re-use them but they are a little difficult to get out!!
i use the tap thingy and the er spanner to put them in that way there not likely to fall out!he only has them on the outside of his backs but we only do
2'3" -2'6" and we have them mainly for his slipping on the roads.
as for which ones on what ground im not soo good on either:o im normaly with other people with more experience when at shows so i ask them:rolleyes:

Farrier does them ......... mine does for a pound a hole......... some charge £1.50.......
if your farrier hot shoes no problem asking then and there....... but if cold shoes remember to ask in advance so can be done at his/her forge :)

I have now entered the world of studs, but have yet to put them in! saphy has one hole on the outside of each back shoe, as apparently she isn't confident on grass and last year slipped over in the practice ring jumping and lost her nerve. So I will be studding up for jumping, workers and dressage on grass. So far have got pointy ones for hard ground...I have cotton wool dipped in vaseline in the holes.

Fern used to wear them everytime i road on the roads, so before every ride id have to screw them in and faff around, but then we began to weld borium in her shoes.
