Okay, lets say I can't afford a made to measure gorgeous tweed, i'm not sure yet, i've been looking in the catalogues and saw a Shires one for £79.90. I also like the Mears one in rideaway but it's £149.80.

They are both MUCH greener in the catalogues than on the web, but what's the difference? What do you think the Shires one is like? It is 100% wool, but do you get what you pay for? They are both green tweed with red or chestnut overcheck. They are both double vented.

If the Shires link doesn't work put in product code 9549.

dont trust the shires ones:p They say in all catalogues and on teh web they are double vented, but the ones ive tried on are all single vented.

Have you looked into the caldene southwold?
Lovely jacket, I have the more expensive one in all wool, but they fit really nicely (on me anyway, all other jackets look like tents on me because of my big shoulders and little waist.) They come in green and brown.

Thanks, I think I prefer the Caldene gatcombe as it has an overcheck, good to know they are well fitted though. I have broad shoulders and a generous chest, but small waist and wide hips, a proper hourglass shape, so its hard to find jackets that fit properly. I'll definately try on some Caldene jackets when I visit the tack shop then. I will be using it a lot so I guess it is worth shelling out for, I knew the Shires one would be too good to be true, single vented is not an option!

I've never seen the Shires ones, but I imagine they're lightweight and flimsy. You want a medium-heavy really, they sit better.

Maids are more fitted than ladies in general, so if you can get into a maids you stand a better chance of getting a good fit, and a lower price.

i have bought the shire huntingdon jackets from barnstormers for this year. I was impressed with the jacket for its price. I wouldn't say it is up to the standard on the made to measure jackets - you get what you pay for. But its a good option for those not wanting to spend alot. I thought the quality was very good.
