a place to say goodbyes, place tributes and memories of our beloved animals who have sadly crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge  From horses to rabbits.....all sorts of pets, it's nice to have a rainbow bridge. :D
i like to think that my passed horse, Rodney, is in rainbow bridge, he has wings now and so he is free.....i know others like to think like that too ;)
so what do you think, guys??

You know when new features were added like a riding for the disabled page and stuff?
Ah well, lets hope something happens next time, I really wanted a memory page and I think its nice for people, especially since i've seen so many posts on horses being PTS x

Why wouldn't they? If they felt it was too personal or whatever, then they could just choose not to post.
I think NR is great for offering a helping hand, so a memory/rainbow bridge page is surely a good idea for those who want their horse to have a trubute, especially if they know people on NR who have met or heard about/helped said horse etc

I like the idea too...I've seen it on a (don't be grossed out!!) rat forum I go on sometimes, and it's used often too.
When Barbaro died, I mentioned to someone I know who loves racing that Barbaro is probably running free and winning all the races at Rainbow Bridge, and he said that he doesn't believe that stuff, only things that come out of the bible, etc etc etc and he got all offended. I backed off so quickly, you wouldn't believe it! I was really surprised at how weird he got about it, but maybe that's just how some people react! I just personally like it because it makes me feel happier about everything, and even though I know it's made up, I can still think it's real in my mind...the mind is a very powerful tool in controlling the way we feel and think about things!! You got my vote for it, although I hope no one ever has to post on it!! :(

ok cool so thats 5 so far (including me  )
what happens then...do the mods wait and see how many people respond to the thread before they make a decision or what? i am so new to the whole ideas thing on this site!!! lol most of the other forums i have been on before have already had a rainbow bridge in place ;)

awwww bless ya!! i am on rabbit forums a cat forum and horse ones so i understand lol!! yea it is a nice tribute thing as well as a way to let others know that a recent beloved animal has passed away
i like the fact that i could even post about my dog who was pts 12 yrs ago too, yoi know, bring them back into your mind as you write about the times you had, it makes you sad, yes but also smile :)
i just like the idea.....it's nice to pay respects to people who have sadly lost an animal..i know when i posted a thread on the general forum of this site about rodney (my old horse) and it was only a week and it is automatically deleted. so all those kind words from people were forgotten. i would so love for us to be able to look on it 3 months down the line and just know people are there for you etc etc

I do hope this idea gets put forward as I think it is a lovely idea! :):)
However....I'm thinking maybe if postes get deleted 3-6 months after they were posted. This gives a lot of time for people to pay their respects and remember the animals who have gone and gives owners a chance to look back on all the happy memories etc. But it also makes sure that it isnt too full of Animals that have Passed Away as this can be upsetting. I dunno.... it's only a suggestion I just dont think its practical for the mods if the tributes can stay there forever (but memories stay with us forever! :D:D:):) ) Mods?

I too like the idea of Rainbow Bridge. It's lovely to think of all my cats that have passed on and the horses too have a little place of heaven they can call their own. I also like the idea that they're there waiting for their owners so they can 'cross over the bridge together' into a better world, I hope! There are websites concerning Rainbow Bridge where owners can post tributes to their departed pets. One site holds a candle light ceremony and if you give them details of your pet, he/she will be included in the ceremony. It's on www.petloss.com.

Rolling eyes implies sarcasm, which doesn't always provoke the best responses in folks.

I think it is going to take a while until new ideas are actually brought forward, as it is not easy/quick to do big changes on a board this size, so hold on to your horses.. ;)

The Boxer dog forum that I go on has a rainbow bridge section. At first I thought it might be morbid but its beautiful what people say about their friends who "run free" at rainbow bridge. It also gives them the chance to post memories (some funny and some naughty memories) of their old boxers.

Sorry to be a Johny Come Lately on this thread, but I don't look at this section everytime I log in:o .
I personally would appreciate Memorium or Rainbow Bridge section. If a seperate forum can't be arranged would a sticky in General be appropriate? Better than nothing?
I know a lot of members (myself included) who have lost horses, or other animals for that matter, gain comfort from the thought that they are still out there, somewhere, in a better place. I don't mind admitting I got quite emotional over a thread yesterday which talked about deceased horses. I found it healing in some ways to share grief with others who have been through a similar experience.
If others don't agree they don't have to look at it.

Gets my vote to, most people don't understand how hard it is when you lose an animal friend, just like loosing a human really and to have support with it would be a great idea, its all a part of horsemanship and thats what this sites about right, so why not:)

I'd like to see it as well. I gained enormous comfort from New Rider when I lost Werner. I like him to be remembered in some small way. Losing an animal is enormously upsetting and its a real help to be able to share with people who understand.

Yes from me too. I am on a Labrador forum and there is one there. As has been said, it is helpful to have support from people who understand - one of my dogs is seriously ill and the folk at work seem to think "well, it is only a dog"
I would have to ensure I only read it at home though as I know the posts make me cry...

Yes, gets my vote too. Great idea. But maybe if the mods go with the idea of claering out every 3 months or so, then they PM the people who have started a thread, so ther person can save or print it, as there might be words they havent written down, or pictures, or lovely memories of the horse that they'd like to keep. And every time they feel sad about it they can look back on all the support and memories they have.
Just a thought :D

Hi all,
This is a lovely idea. Particularly since I had to have my old guy pts on friday.
Here's the poem - still can't read it all the way through yet :(
Rainbow Bridge
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
when their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where beloved creatures find rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Til The Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed.
Their bodies have healed with strength imbued.
They trot through the grass without even a care,
Till one day they whinny and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes sharp and alert.
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the herd.
For just at that second, there's no room for remorse.
As they see each other...one person...one horse.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart
Has turned to joy once more in each heart.
They nuzzle with a love that will last forever.
And then, side-by-side, they cross over...together.
Author unknown...
I take comfort in thinking that, when I go, we'll be able to gallop off into the sunset together..............:o
