I'm starting to show my boy this year and need a few pointers! Think I'm going to do ridden horse? Not sure, Let me know your thoughts.

Also which bit am I meant to use? I ride in a french link snaffle usually but am I meant to have him in a pelham or double???

Help!

Pelham or double ideally, but you can use a snaffle.

Daffy Dilly...can you use a double in ALL showing classes?

A snaffle is absolutely fine if that's what your horse is used to, especially at local level. If your horse goes well in a double or pelham (with two reins), that's preferable but by no means essential for open classes. For most novice or family pony classes (and some equitation/best rider etc) classes, you'll be more correct in a snaffle.

If it doesn't specify snaffle only, then yes. However I prefer to see novices and riding club ponies in snaffles. Whether or not you'll get marked up/down for your bit choice depends on the judge.

Ah my classes of choice tend to be family pony type so I'll stick with my hanging cheek snaffle :D

If it's a M&M, the must have this season appears to be the Wilkie bit. Went up to a show on Good Friday and every M&M on the showground was being ridden in a Wilkie. :D
