What would you recommend to tidy up the top of the tail, do I pull it and if so how do I go about it? Obviously I don’t just use a pair of scissors to trim it, any suggestions welcomed.

Personally I don't like pulled tails, I would rather just brush vigorusly (sp?) at the top as that will thin it a bit then on special days bandage to lay the tail.

Depending on the breed of horse, I do think a "pulled" tail can show off the hind quarters nicely. I confess to having resorted to sissors  :o but if you are going to pull the hairs, do so after exercise when your horse is warm and the pores are open (it hurts less). Some people use clippers up the sides of the tail which looks a bit severe to start with, but OK when its grown out a bit.

I'd leave it as it is, looks nice!

I like it as it is. Just wash oret it and then bandage it to train it to look a bit tidier.

Just wondering how you get the pulled tail effect with scissors?

Xenas old rider did it a few months ago but its grown out abit.
We cant pull her tail as she kicks.

I personally think thinning scissors make a nice job, not bald but it tidys up the top and flattens it, also it dosn't look like it has been attacked with pliers, scissors or a comb :D
