Overreach boots being a popular topic at the min... new farrier has suggested J wears them in the field as well as when ridden as he sets the shoes back slightly and it will stop him pulling them off. Old farrier suggested the same to begin with so off i went and bought the biggest rubber ones i could find. after much huffing and puffing I got them on and they looked like this:

(please do not comment on farriers work, or horses rubbish feet in this pic :p)
I thought they were totally pointless being this small, and farrier said he didnt really need them so off they came. However, as I love this new farrier and don't want to upset him J will be wearing them. I have some velcro ones that are slightly better, but does anyone know of any that come in massive sizes? And would fabric ones be better for wearing all the time? In the other threads people have said rubber ones can make them trip too
Or would the petally ones be a good idea?
Hmm!

Whatever you use make sure you buy a really bright colour. looking for an over reach boot in 7 acres is not fun!!!

Ditto this!! We have them in white and although they look really grubby when they are on (a 'white' horse  ) they are easy to spot when they come off in the field. :p
ps - love the diagram!! ;) :D

My pony had heart bars on and was forever pulling them off  we started turning her out in the premier equine no-turn overreach boots. Nice boots, didn't rub. they were reasonably priced aswell.

how big is he? Phantom used to pull his fronts off when he was shod and I used rubber ones that fasten with velcro.

i used to have the rubber and velcro ones but will be ebaying them as my horse trips badly in them.
apparently the fabric ones are better for not tripping.

He's 18.1. I don't think theres a huge risk of him pulling them off as that would mean he'd actually have to move his back end ;). Went to the tackshop yesterday and she had some XL white rubber shires ones reduced so i've bought them and i'll see how he goes. If he trips i'll invest in some fabric ones like EB suggested as they look quite swish, although they are black! I put the white ones on and they look rather swish, i think he's only mildly embarrassed by them and they do cover much more than the black ones he was wearing before. Thanks guys :)

My lot are obviously neglected then since they never have boots of any kind on in the field! :o
To ask a serious question now... how would you use boots with 24/7 turnout? Would horse wear the boots all the time? I can see the use for them... but does anyone have issues with rubbing?

Js out 24/7 now so i'm waiting for rubs! I have vaselined his heels just in case. When he wore smaller ones last summer his heels rubbed a teensy bit. I take them off when im brushing him to 'air' his ankles but it probably makes very little difference!
I wouldn't choose to boot him up out there really, its only cause of his flamin' feet

i use the professional choice medicine type ones in the paddock, they were expensive 150$nz but they are worth it, they cover the whole hoof and dont rub the hair off the top of the hoof as i found rubber ones did. not too mention they come in heaps of colours!
