I would like to boost my horse's immune system to help prevent another virus like the one he has just recovered from and wondered if anyone could recommend anything that might help. Many thanks.

These are true immuno boosters, they work wonders and are pretty cheap :p

Vitamin C and echinacea
Do these come combined under a particular brand name (in the UK), or are they fed separately?

You can by echinacea from any of the herb companies - Global herbs (http://www.globalherbs.co.uk/horse/2004_pages/suppliments_2.htm) is just one.
Vitamin C can be found in many foods esp fruits and veggies :p

Tahitian Noni is hard to beat, for horses or humans. www.tni.com/ian-lou. It's an adaptogen, so it not only boosts the immune system but helps to balance the whole system. Expensive, but worth it. War of Attrition and lots of other famous horses are on it, so obviously it is not something that is classed as a "drug"

It seems expensive but you won't need any other supplement with it - and you will find with the improvement in general health you can cut back on expensive branded feedstuffs. I don't feed it to every horse every day, but use it as a boost in the right place. Before I used it I liked Pink Powder.

My vet has just advised me to get Equiavit or similar vit., E powder, he told me it was a good supplement and help to cleanse the liver etc., so I have bought a tub, lets see how it works.

Aloe vera in their feed is also very good, contains all the building blocks for a healthy immune system. Though maybe not as well known as stuff from equine brand names!

I would recommend Naf Pink Powder too..link below to their page..

Good for horses who have had a digestive upset as a pick me up & then to feed continually as a balancer/pro biotic/digestive aid
My horse colicked alot a couple of years ago & I swear this stuff keeps it all flowing nicely!

Would feeding the pink powder as it is classed as a balancer on their website therefore 'un-balance' what I currently feed which is balanced as I feed the full weight and it includes everything - therefore Baileys have advised that I do not need to use a an additional feed balancer or minerals. But - my youngster I think could do with an extra pick me up so is it ok to add it for a month as suggested on the NAF site?

if you are in an area that is selenium deficient, ive heard there is a theory that can cause immune deficiencies. If that does apply to you - selenevite is good :)
