This query is posted for a friend! She has a sports horsey huntery boy, very gorgeous, who she'd like to do sports horse or hunter classes with. 2 questions - he goes equally well in a snaffle or double bridle, will the double be considered more appropriate? Also, she's a bit blingy & has bought cyprium bits for the double, which are sort of goldy in colour. Is this going to matter to the judges? Any thoughts gratefully appreciated!

Both bits are acceptable, at bigger shows a double is better, but at smaller shows different judges seem to have all sorts of ideas of what a competition horse is, so it's pot luck whether they prefer a snaffle or double!
Silver bits would be better, but competition horse is the one where alternative tack is most acceptable, so she shouldn't worry about the colour too much.

Depends on the judge. I personaly think hunters have an overall smarter appearance in double or pelham as the two reins sort of complete the look.
He may also be stronger at a show. Especialy when cantering around with th others so its another thing to consider.
It realy doesnt matter about the colour of the bit. May even make her stand out more! However would look better if the bit colour matched the buckles on the bridle.
At the end of the day its the judges opinion. Good luck and i hope she favours your friend! :)
