Have always been confused by this. At my last RS, horses were fed directly after work, despite being worked hard for hours on end. Another livery also does this (get home, bridle off, feed bowl in front of them straight away), and has never suffered any ill effects in the 3 horses she has owned.

When I had my last share horse, however, I was told that I HAD to wait at least half an hour after work before feeding, more if they had sweated up (until they had dried out).

So how long do you need to wait? Flyer has a small feed of Happy Hoof with a vitamin supplement and a couple of carrots - no mix (he has enough weight on him as it is:o ).

It is just happy hoof he's having, I would give it as soon as the horse has cooled down (stopped puffing) and after they had been washed off, if need be. It's just fibre, like grass, so won't do any harm. For bigger feeds with concentrates, I would probably wait 20 mins just to be on the safe side.
