Oh dear, things have gone a bit pear-shaped at home.:o Joe seems to have forgotten his 16 years as a gentleman and has reverted to the scary tb I'm gonna do wall of death with you horse he was 2 years ago:eek: Last night he subjected OH to running off whilst being tacked up (don't ask, fatal mistake of tacking him up outside his box and trusting him for a split second with no headcollar on:o ) and then once OH mounted, he reared, spun, farted and bucked for England before setting off on mincing back legs up the lane. Needless to say total disaster for Storm at this point - who gets upset if Joe moves a whisker:eek:  That'll be me near to tears and having to turn back. Do you think its because we aren't handling him as much on the ground? Since moving home he's just turned out and hacking once a day. Any tips for going back to basics? Should we do walks in-hand and stuff????? Any advice appreciated.:) sorry for long post.

Only turned out and hacking daily - thats more than some get ;)
OK so some groundwork probably wouldn't go a miss there but it just sounds like he is feeling better and spring has gotten a hold of him :o

Thanks Jessey, I hope it is just Spring!!! Honestly, so not like the Joe we know and love - I was worried its because we're not on a yard anymore and don't have to handle him on the ground quite so much, you know what I mean, like turning out and bringing in, taking him to and from the school area etc. Naughty boy! My initial reaction last night would have been to lunge him, but this isn't possible due to his healing suspensory ligament, vet says only walk and tiny amount of trot! Typical, isn't it?????!!! I think a good lunge would have done him the world of good too.

Probably, bringing them back to work after injury esp if they are a the type that thrives on real work (rather than just the odd walk down the lane) is just a nightmare, all I wanted to do with Bo was stick him on the lunge  I found long reining quite useful, you can stick to straight lines at hopefully a slow enough speed ;) :D

The long reining sounds interesting, I must have a read up on that one. Am hoping that after last nights little display he'll not be quite so bad tonight - OH didn't let him get the better of him and valiantly carried on up the hill - I on the other hand wanted to turn tail and run back home.........!!

I'm sure he will be better tonight, perhaps OH could do a few laps (in walk) of the field before you get on storm so it doesn't upset her?

He was much better!!! We did a few laps of walk, but it was Storm that was jittery!!! hehee, thing she is getting used to the look of the sheep (there are 100's of them.............)
