Has anyone heard of them? One of my friends is looking to buy at the moment and she's found the perfect horse but apparently he's got grass cuts. She phoned me to ask what they were and i don't have a clue!? I've never heard of them before? Does anyone else know, or are we both living in a bubble?

Surely they can't be the same as human grass cuts? You knwo you sometimes get razor sharp rush-time grass- that can cut skin juts like paper cuts. Wouldn't have thought that could cut through horse hair AND skin??

I actually thought from the title before opening the thread, that someone was asking if they could feed horses grass cuttings.
I hope so to that, that's not what they feed him/her

Just a thought could they mean grass cutting as in not lifting the foot very far of the ground as in daisy cutting? If not put me in the bubble as well.

Oo good point, they could mean she's a daisy cutter - bestist most logical explaination yet LOL :D

Grass Cuts are when the new grass springs up and its really sharp so when the horse is eatin it can cut them, kind of like a paper cut ye... Skye had one on her nose!? Most common on their lips and muzzles.. nothing to worry about though a little vaseline and they heal up well, i didnt put any on skye as she just eats vaseline so she has a little scar :D

think i found that ad of the horse!!! TEEHEE Small world.. In that case a polo pony can suffer from grass cuts(striking itself, falling or gettin cut by the stick...) im guessin thats wat it means because polo ground is very short grass and wouldnt be able to cause cuts.. on the pic the horse has what looks like a scar its just lighter hair maybe.. also she looks pigeon toed.. Hope thats helped :D

Sure it doesn't mean grass cracks? In which case it would be cracks in the feet running from the ground up (as apposed to sand cracks which go from the top down)

According to what my friend said down the phone the ad said grass cuts on foot

Hmm another plausable thought there PL, I wouldn't have thought they are referring to little nicks on the muzzle - would you really mention that to a potential buyer as it is nothing to even remotely worry about?

Thats normally referred to as speedy cuts isn't it????

sounds like grass cracks then. I typed it into the internet and came up with one other 'grass cuts' in a polo pony advert (probabaly the same as mentioned above) and they didn't mention anything about muzzle but said it stopped her playing polo, so they possible made her lame.
Grasss cracks are due to bad shoeing/foot balance and will grow out within 6months with good feet trimming.

yeah i thought she was meaning grass cracks too. Phoned the women today but when i asked her to explain what grass cuts was she said that she had cuts all around her hoof that sometimes weeped pus..... so told my friend to stay well clear!

Poor poor horse:( I'm amazed she is not crippled. Grass cracks can be full thickness but usually they're just cosmetic and an indicator that all is not well with the foot.
