Just thought I'd mention riding holidays for any new riders interested.
I've just arrived back home from a week at Porlock Vale Equestrian Centre in Somerset, and although it rained solidly all week, I still enjoyed myself enormously ..... excellent tutors, 2 indoor schools (cross country courses waterlogged at the moment but great in good weather) fantastic hacking
through wonderful scenery, and a friendly atmosphere where staff and guests are only too happy to talk horses and give advice and support where needed.
Food and accommodation is great too!
I've been a number of times and can't recommend it enough ....
If you really want to get to know horses then there is no better way than to do as much as possible ... tacking up, mucking out, cleaning tack .... all of the obvious, but I also think that if you can have a holiday at a good riding centre, it's a great learning as well as an enjoyable experience hacking out with other people in beautiful countryside and it's invaluable
being able to watch other more skilful riders taking lessons .... your own
mistakes become more understandable and hopefully help you improve.
I've made new friends, gained in confidence (even though I keep managing to fall off when jumping :-( :-) ...) and can't wait to go back.
Would love to hear other members' experiences of riding holidays?
