He's way to small for LW hunter, they must be over 15.2hh and most are 16.2hh upwards.

Is he 15.1hh without shoes on when he's relaxed? If you think he could get down to 15hh it's worth a try because there are lots more classes for you. If he's 15.1hh you can do small hunter and riding horse classes, it's hard to tell from a front on view like that which he is more suited to. There are also Riding Club horse, Equitation and working hunters (which he should excel at too). He looks a good type, and if he goes well I'm sure you'll get some good results.

If he's 15.1hh with shoes it's worth measuring him without (when he's being shod) to see. Being 15hh or under would open up a few new classes for you and it's better to be at the bigger end of the heigh bracket than looking small against 17handers in over 15hh classes.

What a lovely chap!

At local shows there are tonnes of classes you can do with him - look out for generic ones such as Rideability, Style and Performance, Riding club horse - which he would shine in as they look for an all rounder working in a snaffle.

I would steer away from ridden hunter (16hh + stonking great beasties) and riding horse (again 16hh+ TB types) but with his height and type you could well look at the Intermediate Show Hunter and Int Working Hunter Pony classes - providing you are under 25.
