Can anyone tell me the difference between hunter ponies and show hunter ponies?

They are the same thing.

Occassionally a judge will be more accepting of a heavier type in a hunter pony class than a show hunter pony class, but the terms are usually used interchangably.

I have been looking on horsemart and it seems that some of the horse are wearing coloured browbands and being classed as show hunters, I thought hacks were shown with coloured browbans and hunter were plain:confused:

Well firstly, show ponies are a lot finer and 'flasher', there the ones that tend to have a 'dasiy cutting action'. Show hunters are much more 'workman like', with less flicky toes, and more bone (although they do appear to be getting lighter and lighter).
They are also split at different heights.
show ponies:
12.2hh, 13.2hh, and 14.2hh

show hunters:
12hh, 13hh, 14hh, 15hh

Also, show ponies have fancy brow bands, and blue jackets, and hunter plain tack with tweed, however just putting the right outfit on won't mean your in the right class ;).
anyway I'll find you some pictures which should help, although they both vary within the height sections too.

See the difference between a show hunter class and a hunter class is that the show hunter is a purely showing class. where as the hunter class is part jumping and part showing, so yeah agree with the comment that show hunter ponies are finer and faster little ponnies! or is that jus applied for horses?? i do working hunter on my boy! its fab fun!
:)

that's really all there is - it's just that sometimes people miss off the 'show' from show hunter and just call it hunter. :)
