After buying many saddle that did not fit, I finally got the saddler out. She said that he needs one made or I need to buy a second hand native pony saddle I have been on the saddle exchange, but just wondered if anyone on here knows of any other places to look for very wide saddles for natives?:)

you could check the EPS forum, there has been quite qa few saddle discussions on there. and i think someone is selling an exmoor-suiting saddle in the EPS for sale section which may be worth investigating :)

why are treeless saddles no good for showing?
I have showed in my fhoenix and my ansur. There are plently of traditional looking treeless saddles around now, and cheaper ones are now on the market.
I have 6 traditional english treeless saddles now, and there are more on teh market.

Many places allow for Treeless saddles. Many treeless saddles..are very traditional looking.
But if one wants to stay with treed and not to spendy... Both Thorowgood and Wintec have saddles for those broad short backed ponies.
Wintec even have nice ones that look like real leather..very hard to tell the difference.

I just got a Saddle Company made to measure in xxx-wide for my connemara ... they do "off the shelf" in various widths but do go up to something like xxxxx wide in made to measure!!
And the tree is adjustable too (by saddler or back to the Saddle Company) if your pony changes shape later :)
Mine is the Verona which is leather on top and lovely soft serge underneath, and nice and lightweight. They do various models like GP, working hunter, dressage.

A cheap option is a Thorowgood Griffin Cob - they go up to XXW and have changeable Fish gullets and removeable knee rolls if you want straighter look for showing. I got mine new for about £220. They do look traditional and quite smart prob not quite the thing for county and above but as a starter theyre great :D (apart from the synthetic girth straps which are a BEAST)
