We gave a very active 12.2 pony a handful of molased feed today. Within seconds he turned all silly and had a mad session of ears flat back sillyness. If he has straight pony nuts/ carrots/ hay etc, no reaction!

Could it have been the feed?

with molasses yes. its like us eatin sugar sweeties or fizzy juice.. instant high almost.. if it were grain it would take longer, but sounds like it was too sugary for her.. :D Bless

Mine react to polo's instantly and go insane, like a sugar rush.

When our 12.2hh was on build up it was instant an hour later when you rode he went on like a mental derranged pony that was so unconrollable it looked like he needed to be put down lmao. Sent my sister to hospital with head injuries from a bsja show.

Taken him off that:eek:

Also he does the same with polos like I posted earlier.

Lol, it's a rule now no polo's, mint etc before they go in the ring to jump haha. Mam made it up.

Also one time he was waiting to go in for jump off and he had a few polo's then exploded in the ring. O dear lols. I mean that was like under 10 mins from first round to j/o.

I think it just effets punch more as he is naturally fizzy/mad/ insane.

I can remember a riding school back in the sixties who had two ponies that were labelled as "sweet itch" although obviously it wasn't in hindsight. If anyone fed them a sugar lump (popular treat in those days!) they would go completely loopy for about an hour or so. I can remember being bucked off Star at a show they were holding and the shout went up "Who's fed this pony sugar lumps!" Both ponies were absolutely fine in the R.S. apart from this what we would know nowadays to be a sugar intolerance. Fond memories Star and Bingo. Funny how easily I can recall ponies names but would struggle to remember people's of this era!
