i want to breed my horse who is a paint but her body is mostly brown.I found a stallion i realy want to breed her to[the stallion is all brown on the body and white face too like my hose] but i'm not sure what color the foal would turn out to be.because i'm scared the foal might be all solid[only reason i want to breed is cuz so i have a baby who looks like my horse]. What do you think the foal would turn out to be?????

Chev is the person to answer this one, but I think it will depend on if the parents are overo, tabianoh or sabino etc and also on which colour is dominant in both parents.
TBH if you only want to breed for a looky likey then you would probably be better going and hunting about and buying one 'ready made' :o

There's really no point in breeding a foal just because you want a pretty one - there are quite a lot of people on here who can tell you exactly why that is a bad idea (cost being just one of them). If I were you I'd go shopping for one, then you'll already know what colour it is :)

It all depends on what white pattern genes both mare and stallion carry. Genes like sabino, overo and splash white are unpredictable to say the least; some horses carrying those genes will be wildly marked (lots of white) while others appear mostly solid.

Breeding for colour is definitely not something to be recommended - far better to go and buy a horse that has the colour you want.

As an example; I had a black tobiano coloured stallion (both parents black tobiano) with a lot of white on his body, and a bay tobiano mare (again, both parents also tobiano) with roughly 50% white on her body. Resulting foal was solid chestnut. Breeding for colour is a serious gamble, and if colour is the only reason you want to breed, I wouldn't bother to be honest.
