Me - 5'9" ish (maybe a tad more), 9.5 stone, dress size 8 - 10. Im well balanced and at the moment he's saddle-less  but when he gets one it will be a nice well fitted one.

Pony - 13hh, 6yr old stocky (and I mean stocky - he's a leg at each corner barrel shaped furry creature ;)) NF, been out of work for 2 yrs, being rebacked now. Very short coupled. Not overweight but not well muscled obviously.

Too big to ride him?

I wouldnt think so... at all. 9.5 stone is a perfectly reasonable weight for a well built 13.2 to carry.
And I know you well enough from the board to know you'll take it easy with him.

You should be alright. You'll look completely ridiculous, but that's a completely different matter:p

I would say that weightwise almost any 13hh pony should be able to carry 9.5 stone unless they've really lost muscle due to illness.
If you're balanced then your height shouldn't be too much of a problem, just something to be aware of. If he seems to be struggling, I'm sure you'll notice quickly.

Go for it...and take pics!:)

He belongs to someone I know, he's very cute. Extremely nappy. Im just desperate to ride because I havent done for so long, I was going to offer to school him a bit if they will let me :o.

You might feel a bit tall on him but you're not going to be over weight.

Go for it :D

You'll be fine, so will the horse.

You'll look no worse than any Icelanidc man of 6 foot 2 on his 13.2hh Icelanidc horse! :D :D

I think you will be fine,
this is me on a 13hh Welsh Section B. I am 5'4" and weighed 9 stone there, he had been sat in a field for a few months and carried me with ease, I just didnt ride him for more than 5 minutes at the time :)

I think you'll be fine, i'm 5'5 just under 9.5 stone, my legs are long in relation to my body length, and exmoor po is 13hh.

I dont think you will look redicuous if he is stocky as his body should accomodate your legs.

Agree with Wally re Icelandic horses carrying 6' men. I think they look great, some pepes have a really hang up about having long legs on a pony, provided the pony is comfy and happy it is totally irrelevant if your legs are long on him.

Go for it and would love to see some pics, i love new forest po's:D :D

You are joking right :D

Of course you're not too big! My OH 5'10 and 10stone rides my 13.2hh New Forest and he rode her when she was smaller too :) Only thing you may find wierd is how much world you can see above their head :p

I ride Bramble a lot at the mo and am 9.5stone and 5'6 we can go out cantering and trotting for hours

Rode him today, I didnt squish him, he did try and drop me a couple of times but he was just being cheeky ;)
He did jump on me as I turned him back out though, think he's broken my toe :o. Good job he's only 13hh!

Was funny to be able to scratch his ears without even getting my bum out of the saddle :p

I think you look fine on him, sweet little chap he looks. I often find it's not the getting off the small ponies that's the problem, but the getting on. I can't seem to get on anything under 13.2hh without a mounting block, seems mad but there just doesn't seem to be enough pony there to get on from the ground

He's a cutie-pie! Did you have fun riding him? I rode a little 12.2hh pony for someone a while ago and she tried to drop me too! :D

And yes, the ground does jar you when you land earlier than expecting doesn't it!? :p

andb he's built like a brick sh*t house by the looks of it, so i wouldnt worry about squishing him! he's more likely to squish YOU. or your toe :o
