After amba's temper tantrums the other week rearing, chasing, pawing the ground, biting, kicking e.c.t. I decided to email Sarah Dent and shes coming along to see her tomorrow afternoon. Although now my little mare, is being perfect but it should still be a worthwhile experience

Slightly nervous for some reason, but I'm sure we'll both me fine. I keep thinking what if amba's an angel, the last RA thought she was one of the sweetest pony's she'd met, 'butter wouldn't melt' the only reason why she acted like she was, was due to back pain, and although I'm glad shes not in pain, i don't think that was the full reason she is the way she is.

Has anyone had an RA out? What do they do?

You are the appointment before me! I've got Sarah coming out to see Mikey tomorrow afternoon - she said she's seeing someone else before she comes to me. Small world?

Its typical isn't it? You email them when your horse is being annoying/bad mannered etc and then when they come said horse is fine!

I've had Sarah a couple of times and she's lovely, there's nothing at all to be nervous about. She's very friendly and down to earth. To begin with she'll collect a bit of information about you and your horse, what you do and what sort of routine you have, and what sort of issues you have. It's quite likely then that you'll move on to doing some basic leading work and groundwork and take it from there. Even if your horse is being quite good it's likely that she'll be able to pick up on a few pointers that will help your interractions, for example where and how they lead, how they respond to you and sometimes who is leading who. Lots of small things make a big difference.

Good luck and let us know how you get on :)

Sarah came out to our yard about a year back & saw my old horse, I was a bit apprehensive about what she'd say - I'd been practising all the stuff out of Perfect Manners but was convinced she'd tell me his manners were cr*p! She was lovely though, gave me very constructive, positive & helpful feedback and helped me out with a couple of exercises from the book I'd struggled with. TBH he wasn't a problem horse & if somebody else hadn't been calling her out anyway I'd not have asked her to see us, but it was really useful, and the stuff she taught me has definitely helped since I've had P - she's not especially difficult but sometimes has tried to push the boundaries a bit so I've needed to be quite assertive!

Sarah's brilliant, really knowledgeable and very nice :)

She helped me when Saff was rearing and we've had groundwork and long lining sessions with her since.

You'll be fine :)
