View Full Version : Do all horses find bend easier on one rein?

Do you think is it really true, as a lot of people claim, that bend is determined by which way they lie in the womb as a foal? Or, is it purely due to how they are ridden and whether the rider is stronger down one side of their body (i.e. stronger inside leg)?

My mare always finds bend difficult on the left rein and easily falls in, but then I know my left leg is my weaker leg. However even in the early days after being backed, she lunged better on the right rein.

Any thoughts?

I think they're sided, just like we are. Both mine are better on one rein than the other, but it's not the same one :)

my RI told me about the lying in the womb thing recently
until then i'd just thought it was because like us they're one sided, also we start them off with us on their left all the time so i always thought that helped to make them one sided too

but as finn has improved, and me too (my left side is appalling, my right side slightly less appalling) his one sidedness seems to change sides. apparently this is to be expected my RI says.
all interesting stuff isn't it? :)

mine are all one sided on the same side and find the right rein difficult, I just assumed it was me  maybe its not :)
