My first show with Saphy is quite a high standard one on the 5th May, and we'll be doing WHP up to 15hh, and ridden m & m all breeds, so I wanted to do a smaller on first, as a bit of a warm up. A riding club is holding a little open show on the 29th april, so I thought we could go along to that.

So here are the classes, I definately want to do novice working hunter, what else? 3a and 4? Saphy is a 13.3hh reg connemara, and i'm 23. the thing is, she isn't a novice working hunter, but I am, so I don't know if I can get away with it. I have a feeling there won't be that many entries...

Class 2 Best Coloured - in hand or ridden.

do the RC horse, and phone the secretary and check whether the novice WH not to have won etc is for horse, rider or partnership.

Have you got a photo of her?

Usually the novice working hunter classes are for novice horses, not novice riders, so definately phone up and check before you do it. You could do the open working hunter depending on the height of the jumps, and if she jumps it sounds like she'd do well in the RC horse too. If she's a hunter type and has correct conformation you could plait up for the hunter class, and as you said, there's the best combination class too (whether you do this probably depends how highly you rate your riding!)

I've jumped up to 2'6 on her so far and we got 63.6% in the dressage test we did, if that helps :D How big would open WH be do you think?

Here's a couple of pics, not me riding though..don't have any proper ones of me riding her yet...

She's lovely, and could definately do the hunter (under 15.2hh) class if you plait her up (but it's worth asking the secretary whether it's meant for hunter ponies too). Working hunters can be any height depending on the show, usually opens for ponies can be anything from 2ft3-3ft3, so it's worth asking!
