Sometimes it is easy to forget that the teachers often stress as much as the trainees!!
Three exam entries so far, no full time students and ....they all passed :D :D :D
First exam student left top class training centre last year. I was asked to prepare for previously failed exam by his new employers. He was a great rider but lacked exam technique and we had 6 hours to teach him. He passed Stage 3 :D
Second young mum rides twice a week passed Stage 1 with no faults :D
Then 17yo 6th former rides once a week . Used to be a member of our stable club . Passed Stage 1 with no faults
You can do it ....this was not magic just real people proving that it IS possible
Sorry this sounds like a boast...its not I am just so happy for them!!!

Thanks eml! I too passed, studying part time - although having my own horse, working in my real job 10-12 hours a day isn't conducive to much practice!:D But, I am thinking about how realistic it is for me to do Stage 2 under these conditions, or whether that is biting off just too much.:o

I have one lady just about to sit it . Less practice than you as she doesn't even have a horse. She started as a nervous wreck on one of my quietest cobs having had a bad accident years ago and has now passed Stage 1 (last year) and is well up to Stage 2 based on a an hour a week.
Of course you can do it...just perhaps not next week :D

I'm trying to do my Stage 3 (only care at the mo) on a study at gome basis (i got through my 1 and 2 like that!!) but am really struggling to get on with it. The stuff seems ok and not too hard but I just can't get my butt in gear to learn it!!!:)

Hi, I did my Stages 1-4, BHSIT and BHS Stable Managers certificate on a p/t basis and passed all first time in the space of 2 years! If you are in the south and want training we do it at our yard.PM me if you are intrested!

I did my Stage 1 by studying at home mainly too. I had one riding lesson per week plus any schooling time I had, but most of the work was done at home. I'm not sure I could do that for Stage 2 though, I'm not the most confident at jumping.

I also did my Stage 1 and 2 in my spare time.
I studied at home with books and by ticking off things in the syllabus for the horse care side of things, and practiced on 'real' horses when I could.
For my Stage 1 I had a 1/2 hour private riding lesson a week but I was already at the standard so it was just a case of brushing up and fine-tuning things.
For my Stage 2 I had 2-3 lessons a week (2 private, 1 group - got very expensive) as you need to concentrate both on the flatwork and jumping equally. I was also very nervous jumping but managed to build my confidence up through these lessons. I also went on a week's instructional riding holiday a month before my actual Stage 2 exam to really intensively prepare, but mainly to boost my confidence.
Unfortunately I cannot afford to do all that again for my Stage 3, which would inevitably need even more training hours, as I am nowhere near up to the standard. Maybe one day in the future...
