Hiya
I changed my options for year 10 a few months back and I changed one of them to GCSE PE, i then found out i could do GCSE horse riding, i was made up, at 1st i thort i had no chance of achieving much but ive got more confidence and progressed now alot since changing horse.
Anyway to the point, I wanted to know what EXACTLY you get assessed in and WHEN? because we have practical exams in three weeks, will i get assessed and i heard something about you teaching a beginner? so what exactly involved and when??
thanks in advance.

I'm doing it too and what I've gathered is you film yourself riding on the flat and jumping and it gets assessed. I heard something about you get better grades if you compete from my teacher.

Hiya, I'm in year nine and was going to take GCSE Pe.
My friend who is in year ten knows everything about GCSE pe. When it comes to riding in your exam you film yourself (well not you... someone films you :p) riding a horse. I assume you do whatever you want as my friend has not mentioned jumping although you must do whatever is in your capability. She does not compete and does not own her own horse just rides weekley at my RS so I dont think competing is a major factor as many people just cannot compete.
*sigh* I decided against GCSE pe as I'm complete rubbish at other sports apart from Netball, badminton, basketball, swimming and riding (and in these I excel above my classmates) and the thought of doing football or athletics just makes me blush and shudder. I couldnt do it. Plus I'm not in any teams as I get far too competitive and will actually get angry.
I was made up with the thought of riding too. But I dont think I could endure all those other sports. (the biology would be alright) Not wishing to take over your thread but do you think I've made the wrong decision? Honest opinions please...... *sigh* all the thoughts of riding in school......

It may also depend on which Examining Board your school is using. You can usually get the syllabus and assessment criteria from the Board directly. Go and ask your head of PE which they are using.

Don't feel bad about it FF_sos I wasn't going to take it (because I didn't have my own horse) until my friend said I could use her horse for it as I didn't see how I would get good enough for it to be worthwhile.
P.S Yeah I know you can do it w/o your own horse but I'm not at all good so it's going to need a lot of work. I will probably fail anyway lol cause I'm more of the enjoys sports kinda person than good at it:o

Ask your PE department for the assessment criteria and take them to your RI.
We do several assesments a year. To get a good grade you need to look as if you are up competing, although you don't have to actually do so. As a guide at GCSE dressage level is Prelim, at AS Novice and at A2 Elementary. Showjumping 2'3 ish at GCSE, 2'9 at AS and at A2 3'3 BSJA standard course.
As a guide one of our RS pupils did well enough at SJ at GCSE level to get almost maximum points and a girl recently who had ridden a lot on her own horse but not ever competed did the dressage option on one of our competion schoolmasters and got the equivalent of a D grade although she had never ridden a dressage test before.

hi i didnt take GCSE pe but my friend did, it involves doing a lot of boring theory work, and then they set u a novice dressage test, a set on for the year, not a bhs one i dnt think although it was close to novice 27 i think, if u can easily so novice dressage your made for the gcse horse riding exam also if u can do everything in the abrs tests up to test 6 then you have nothing to worry about! anything else u want to know i will find out for you. Jenny. x ps horses4eva888 is doing hers on my pony Puzzle. i will make sure she keeps u up 2 date. :):D
