Just wanting a second opinion. my horse was diagnosed with ring worm 7 weeks ago so he had the granules and special shampoo as well as treating my other horses on yard and everything and i mean everything was disenfected with virkon s. However 6 weeks later he is still testing positive so it all starts again!!! is there anything stronger disenfectant i could use to make sure every thing is being killed or should the virkon s have done the job? any advice welcome!!!:)

I would imagine Virkon would be okay as it seems to be used so much & popular.
But I would try to scrub it into every crack & crevice - having read that the fungal spores can exist dormant in damp dark crevices for up to 10 years, ugh! Good luck.

One of the current views is that they become immune to it eventually anyway - just a matter of time.

So do your best with treatments control etc, but don't have too much grief / loose sleep over it, IMHO. It rarely gets so bad it makes them systemically ill. Just has such a stigma.

Mine had it under his tail a few years ago - it went after a few weeks of cream applied then never returned (touches wood, disinfected wood that is, lol).

I had read that in 6-12 weeks it gets rid of itself!!! Your right about the stigma!!! Its such a nightmare hoping i manage to kill it this time!!!:)

We get a powder from the vet, mix with water and spray everything with a garden sprayer.

The goats seem to attract ringworm, never seems to spread to anyone else, but each spring we seem to de ringworm the goats and associated housing.
