I have a question ...
My horse has recently started 'clicking' in one of her back legs around the hock and I don't know why or what had caused it. She hasn't done this before and I can't think of a reason as to why she might have started doing it, she hasn't had had a change in her workload or anything like that, she lives out 24/7 so I don't think its that she's stiff from being stood for a long time either.
When I ride her it seems to stop clicking, well I haven't noticed her doing it when ridden, she clicks maybe for the first 5/10 mins when ridden and then it stops but as soon as you get off and by the time you've untacked her she's clicking again when she walks away from you when turned out.
I don't know if anyone can suggest a reason for her doing this or what it might be as i'm a bit worried about it. Also if anyone can suggest any joint types supplements that might help i'd be very greatful.
Thanks a lot for any suggestions.

If you get her medically checked out and they can find no immediate cause and/or have a chiro out as well, I am led to believe that feeding a glucosamine supplement (Cortaflex/Gold Label/Naf 5 Star) will stop the clicking. I think there are some peeps on here who will back me up on this (if they read it  ) You could try cod liver oil as well... that's also good for joints....

Could be a locking stifle joint? If it is, its not usually painful and as domane said joint supplements made up of glucosamine and chondrointin could eliminate it after been on it as a feed supplement for a few weeks.
Of course you can't be sure, so if your worried about it and she seems unsound, get it checked. Sure she's fine.

Thanks for the suggestions, they were really helpful! :D
She's perfectly sound which was why I just thought it was strange!
I'll have a look into some of those supplements and see if they help.
Thanks a lot for your help :)

I am quite interested in this thread as I may go and look at a horse which is for sale and the owners say is has a knee that clicks and they have had it checked by vet who does not think it is a problem and it is sound. They dont say what is causing it tho!

It sounds like air pockets in the the joint. Much like popping your knuckles...I am told by my vet and Chiro that it is totally harmless, contrary to what my parents always said. If the horse is older and "used" I would suggest putting him on a joint suppliment for maintenence though :D.
