I have recently started riding my horse in a pelham as I find he engages much better in this rather than a snaffle which he tends to lean on. I haven't yet competed but may eventually want to do a bit of dressage. Someone has suggested that I try a hanging cheek snaffle as he is quite heavy in a normal snaffle. Does anyoe use a hanging cheek and does it help them to not lean and lighten the forehand. I've had a look on ebay but there are loads of different types are some types harsher than others? Any advice gratefully received.

Yes, I use a hanging cheek for dressage, I think they are very useful because they are not severe but the hanging cheeks help to get a little more leverage to stop them from leaning on your hands. :)

Hanging cheek french links, most horses like them.

it uses more poll pressure, encouraging the horse to break and soften at the poll and accept the bit in a relaxed manner.
very useful.
