My mare was shod yesterday an when i got there i noticed they looked rather short, but thought it was coz they were due and i was used to seeing them long.

Anyway went to ride and she was stumbling and not striding out properly. Could she be a little sore or something more. She has back shoes on all 4 and the fronts look small.

She could be sore, or she could be unused to the balance (esp if they cnaged dramatically) or they could be shod badly. If it doesn't clear up in the next few days it might be worth getting the farrier out again.

Hi,

I think it is a cross of them being sore and a dramatic change. But they also look shod badly!

Oh i need a better farrier!

I have left her in anyway as she has a gash on her stomach and i want it to heel up. If no better by Friday i will call him,

Thanks :)

Horses trip if they are landing toe first. they should land heel first.

These are some things that could cause her to land toe first.
1. Pain in the back of the foot caused by too small shoes (putting contraction pressure on the hoof).
2. An imbalanced trim, it may be that your farrier has taken too much off the toe and left the heels high to create a more upright foot. The toe then jabs into the ground and they often stumble. This one is probably most likey I rarely see hooves that are balanced correctly. If they have been made more upright than they shold be it will affect your horses pastern and shoulder angles and therefore movement. This can be pretty uncomfortable or painful for them.

You can post pictures for us to have a look at, then it would be easier to advise. Maybe you should look around for another farrier/ trimmer?

Hiya

She is landing toe first but have new farrier on Tues for a new set and hopefully he will sort them.

Very angry as found out apprentice was sent with a new apprentice and qualified farrier wasnt there to advisw, anyway he left the shoe on to long and burnt the foot and then did it again! A friend had to ask what he was doing!

Wont be using him again!!
