2 months ago my horse had a serious nosebleed, which then resulted in an infection into the gutteral pouch and i really thought i was goinf to lose her. However it was only an infection not fungal, so it was all from a broken blood vessel in her trachea, which then vbled into her lungs. The vet said that i can start riding her this was 3 weeks ago, I know how to bring horses back from lameness and tendons but have never had anything like this before. sO HOW LONG AM I LOOKING FOR HER TO BE BACK IN FULL WORK AND HOW CAN I BUILD HER UP. sorry bout the capitals

My old horse had tendon trouble a few years back and was off work for nearly 9 months. When he was finally given the all clear the vet worked out a 6 week basic fittenning programme for him.
Week 1 Active walking only on a hard surface 20 mins per day.
Week 2 As with week 1 but increase to 1 hr.
Week 3 Still walking 1- 1/2 hrs. introducing hill work
Week 4 Same as week 3 but introduce some trotting on level ground, not the road, but only in 2 or 3 minute bursts
Week 5 A with week 4 but longer bursts of trotting, some uphill.
Week 6 As week 5 but a short canter can be introduced on level ground.
This first 6 weeks will strengthen the body and will give it time to adapt without damage. Once the 6 weeks are done you can then start a proper fittening programme designed around the disapline your doing, lunging, school work etc. In my case it was hunting so I was allowed to up my fast work. Hope this helps.
