Can someone tell me if there are any makes that are designed such that they can be worn over shoes?

We want to stop mud piling up in the sole area between each shoe, as skeeter heals from his recent crisis (fields are muddy and a mess). So I am thinking some sort of trail boot might work, but I did note some makes of boot seem to say on the web site that the boot cannot be worn over shoes. Also I need a boot that is quite easy to put on, as the stables would be putting it on and off for turnout, and if it takes forever to put the boots on, I don't think that they will do it.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

It depends on the boot. Here's a link:

Hmmm, seems they can all be worn over a shoe but it voids the warranty. Has anyone on here worn any of the basic hoof boots over shoes without destroying them right away? Skeeter would just be moseying about his isolation paddock, so no hard work in the the boots.

p.s. Important question - so since any of those boots would work, which are the easiest to put on?! :)

We love the Boa Boots and found them to be the easiest to put on (comparing them to Easyboots, etc.) - BUT: They are expensive and it would be a shame to wear them through with iron shoes. Have you compared costs? If you are going to 'ruin' them anyway perhaps go with lower price?

Old Mac G2's can... or at least it says so in the booklet they came with :)

Since its just to stop mud during turnout there's quite a few interesting home made things you can make with bits of old carpet, nappies, bags, tarpaulin, old leather etc, much cheaper and you won't mind if it gets trashed or lost.

Just get the easy boot Epics.. Endurance riders toss them over shoes all the time they arn't AS expensive and wear well apparently. I can't find the article by Karen what's her noodle.. talking about them.. she has put 2000 miles on a single pair over shoes.. and the shoe lasted a heck of a lot longer as well :)

They all look so complicated to put on. How long do they take to put on? I know the barn won't take them on and off it it takes 3-5 minutes per boot (x 2 since 2 front boots), and it looks like it could. I guess I can't leave them on all the time, or I'd trap in moisture and dirt that got in them somehow. Maybe this is not going to be possible?

Almost all types can be put on over shoes, but for extended turnout I'd try epics too (or rather bares with the epic fastening). Is he stabled at night? My guess is you would be fine so long as they're not on 24 hours a day, but I'd implement a daily disinfection routine just in case. Good luck getting him sorted :)

Epics are very quick and easy to apply, especially if you use a rubber mallet to tap the toe and heel rather than wrestling with them :)

Under 5 mins to do the pair easy once they have stretched and settled a bit to the shape of his foot. The first times will be precarious after that? They should be really easy. The pair I used I put them both on than stepped the latch on with my foot and away we went
