View Full Version : Getting a new showing outfit...
28th Apr 2007, 09:38 PM
My mum has said she will break the bank and put together a good showing outfit for me this year :D
I already have a corn shirt, red tie with gold flecks, and black long boots, cane + brown gloves - it's the tweed and hat I'm really seeking!
I am planning to get some "corn" jodhs so they're not too garish (found some that are the perfect colour)
Phi is a chestnut and looks fabulous with green. I would like to get a green tweed (self collar) but not sure what colour hat to go for - would a dark green hat be acceptable or should I go for brown?
Otherwise I could do the navy collar etc. with the navy hat but I don't want to just be like everyone else.
Can anyone suggest any good jackets in either style?
I like the Caldene Belvoir among others, but not sure what the colour is really like; is it greeny or browny?

Personally, I love the look of blue velvet hats with flesh-coloured harnesses. I think they just look like the business. Can you get other coloured hats with flesh harnesses too?

Yes, the Charles Owen 2000 can be made in black, navy, brown and green with a leather harness so I don't have to worry about not getting the right colours.
I like the navy look alot too, but it seems that everyone is doing that right now. I might go for that, I just really would like to know what I can and can't do! :)
I'm not sure Phi would suit navy either, she's quite a copper colour in the summer:
My current tweed looks very grey there bit it's actually brown, I've got a corn shirt now too.
On second thoughts she might look great with navy and a good green?
Oh god I'm so confused! :p

I would definately go for a green jacket, and as I don't personally like the green charles owen hats, I'd go for a navy one.
I have the Caldene Belvoir green tweed, and it is quite.. bland I guess. I plan on using mine as a stop gap for this season and possibly the next, and then as a hunting jacket rather than trash an expensive made to measure one.
You can get an idea of its colour here, shown against my black Belvoir, which is pure heavyweight wool and as black as they come. Please ignore the slobber on the black jacket, I haven't had it dry cleaned since it was worn.
Plan is to change the buttons for green foxhead ones, I don't like the ones it has. I do not think that it would suit a green hat, the green hats are very bottle green, whereas this is quite subtle. When I was choosing a jacket, people said that it was perhaps too traditional and "safe" for M&M's, but as it's only a stop gap I'm not bothered.
ETA, I have a lesson tomorrow, so I can throw it on and have some photos taken of it with full gear if you want.

Shouldn't you be wearing short boots? How old are you?
I personaly like the navy/flesh harness hats!

Long boots on a welsh D ;)

Would definately go for a brown or navy rather than green. I'm not really a fan of navy so would rather have brown, is that allowed?
Do you know of a green jacket that would suit a brown hat if you think the Belvoir wouldn't look good?
ETA: A picture would be brilliant if it's not too much bother? :)

I'm not keen on the green hats either, they can be very "in your face" (!) I think either green jacket with blue hat (with or without blue velvet collar) or brown jacket with brown hat would look very smart. Brown would really suit your pony's colouring.
All 3 of the links are to suitable gear, you sound like you've got your eye in!

I've just put my ties with the jacket, burgundy looks ok (but only ok), red doesn't look good in this light anyway and gold is spot on.
Will get some photos tomorrow, any excuse to dress up. ;) Of course, I'll be on a black pony, but perhaps someone good at photoshopping could superimpose me onto a chestnut.

So Glider, if I put the Belvoir with a brown hat, what do you think? It's quite a browny green which would look good with Phi?
I managed to kind of put together the stuff I'm looking at, except I had to use any old brown hat! Put next to Phi it does look nice :)

I think that looks like a good combination to me, though the jacket doesn't appear to fit the model that well (looks a bit baggy), so it'll be worth trying it on before you buy. I'm not a big fan of velvet collars, but I think to carry off a brown hat with a greeny brown jacket, it would have to have a brown velvet collars. You can buy ones to attach to jackets without one.

TBH I can't see the jacket suiting a velvet collar of any colour.
Didn't manage to get any pictures earlier, but took some just now to give you an idea. Please ignore the dodgy model, it's Mum's tailors dummy and I think she was halfway through adjusting it when I borrowed it.
Not sure I'll be wearing those jods with it, but then they always look better in the saddle colourwise than they do on the ground, so it will depend on those photos.
I plan on wearing the gold tie, but with a cream shirt. I just don't have one at the moment.
I think what would possibly look better than a brown hat, is a faded black or navy one. Of course, its worth leaving an old hat out in the sun first to see what happens.
