I am doing a favor for my trainer this Sunday by helping her with one of her little kids' classes. She told me that in return I could hack with the adult class right before it. My question is what does she mean by hacking? Does this mean that I will take the lesson with the early class, or will I just ride on my own during that time period, or what? I have been taking lessons for a little over four months and I have never heard her use that particular term. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I think that class is more advanced than I am, so I don't know if that will be a problem or not. I have been reading the posts on this board for about a week and you all seem very responsive and helpful. It was nice to find a place for new riders. Most of the other sites I have seen seem to be more for people who are seriously into showing, or a least more advanced riders than I am. Thanks!

I agree with you about the site. Such a change from the normal "come back wen you've learnt to ride" sites.

Hacking normally means riding the horse, usually into the countryside, but in a non-school situation. Just...riding outside for pleasure. I go hacking about once a week for 2-3 hours in the Peak District.

Having said that, I'm not sure that definition works in the context of your statement, although I've never heard the term used in any other way.
