Stirrup advice needed...

This seems the best section to post this in (I think) so....

My toes dislocate very very easily, to the point where if I use ordinary stirrups and put any pressure in them, they come out of their joints and by the time I get off I can't walk as they have popped out and hurt unbearably. Out of choice, I don't use stirrups, but if I do, I have them mega long so I can't put weight in them. This obviously leads to problems jumping/rising trot, etc. I can't run on hard ground either, 'cause they will just pop out suddenly and then I'm left to try to hop home!

Would wider tread stirrups (like the HM ones) be better? Or cage ones? Any ideas? Have just got a new saddle :D so this problem has come up again, and to be honest, the thought of putting stirrups on and having it happen again makes me feel sick. I remember all too well how much it hurts!

Any help/advice much appreciated :).

ETA: would those riding boots with the steel reinforcement in the sole help possibly? Just wondering....

I was going to suggest the HM or cage stirrups!

Where are you? Is there anyone near you whose stirrups you could try? If you're anywhere near Sheffield you could try mine out.

I have a bad foot with bone damage and ride in the endurance type stirrups, the ones with a really wide base, they are very good and also help with my bad knees.

Anything with a wide tread, I think. Endurance stirrups, western stirrups or the spanish ones with the wide tread. Caged stirrups could also be good because you could put your foot all the way in without worrying about getting caught/ slipping through. That way you will be able to have the weight further back on your foot and not near your toes.

I used Stirrup Straights and Endurance type stirrups to help my knees.
They even have them for English leathers.

I just have the plain leg savers. They have them for any size leather and they keep the stirrups straight so it doesn't twist your knees and legs.

So your feet do not go through the stirrup.. I like these best. Easy to use and light weight. They are called Cashel Cozy toes...sold for cold winter riding but I used them to keep my feet from slipping through the stirrup.
