Ok so I have my bubba falabella, he is 3 years old. Been recently doing some freeschooling with him which he loves, but want to get him doing some gentle lunging too. Only problem is I have only limited knowledge on how to teach a horse to lunge. Luka knew basically what I was asking her but when I first got her I had to use two lunge lines to encourage her to stay out. Anything else I can do to teach Buddy lunging? Doesnt help he is so small, I dont want him tripping over lunge lines! He is OK when led, but as soon as the other person lets go he cuts in again!

Any tips?

You could long rein to get him used to your voice commands, the lunge line and the whip.

start by just like leading him around in a circle then slowly get further and further away from him... eventually you will be in the middle of the circle and he should pick up pretty wuickly once you get to that stage.. it seems pretty simple, but it isnt always, beware because as you get further away from him, he may not understand and try to stay beside you.... be patient!

Patience is the key. I got a friend to walk round with her while i was in the middle and gradually move further away from her, i had the problem she turned in so used loose schooling with a whip to stop her coming over to me!
