Skin Disorder help!

My grey mare has small black specks on her flank and belly. She does seem to have been rubbing them but I cant see anything alive on her. Any ideas please?

Ticks? You wont really see them move.

Aren't they the things that suck blood and swell up? Definately none of them on her. I'll have a closer look when she comes in.

Are the black things on her skin (balder areas) or on top of her hair.

Ticks can be very dark coloured and small when first attached that what made me think ticks. hard to say without more detail or photo.

They are on her skin. It looks like black pepper. Sorry, closest thing that came to mi:D nd.
