Hiya,
I got my mare Savannah in to ride her, picked up her off side foreleg to pick out the hoof and noticed her leg, half way down the tendons, and top of fetlock area was swollen, so I cold hosed it for 20mins and put her back out.

Now I am in a panic, should I call the vey tomorrow morning if the swellin is still there, I hope to god its not she's not pulled a tendon, if not a tendon injury what else could it be, it doesn't feel any hotter than the nearside foreleg.

What is everyones opinions.

Is it soft?

Might be a windgall.

Thanks Wally
Yes very soft,
Why did I not think windgall before, I was all in a panic fearing the worst.

Shall I give her the week off, if it is a windgall will the swelling be there for ever, how shall I moniter the situation, should I still call the vet.

if it is a windgall then there is no need to panic.Windgalls are caused by hard work on hard ground, that doesn't mean that you have been going too fast with her as she could just have easily done it galloping about with her friends.Just be careful to avoid doing too much trotting along the roads and avoid fast work while the ground remains so hard.

Does it look like this? (link to my thread about fetlock swelling):

It was a wind gall, and it's still there, but doesn't seem to be bothering her at all.
