me and my OH are looking at a horse we have him on trial at the moment.:D
its are first day to day and we gave him his dinner in one of my horses stables which is shavings .he ate it fine but then proceeded to lick the bucket whist led down? hes being sold through my yard so iv seen him about the last couple of weeks and iv seen him do this before so wasnt overly worried but still thought it a little weird!!
hes 13 coming up 14 and i have been told he doesnt overly like stables but to be honest he didnt seem to fussed:rolleyes: hes going to be living out anyway.
just wondered if anyone has come across this before?
i find it a little unerving mainly cause i panic about colic:rolleyes:

It may just be a quirk of his. Jim eats most of his feed with the bwl on the ground but to eat the last few mouthfuls he always picks the bowl up, props it on the door & moves it round with his teeth until the bowl is empty & the sides licked clean! Slightly weird & goodness knows where he learned it but not a health problem!

My horse (which I have just sold) Always used to eat grass layed down in the field, And anything he see's he tries to pick up if he suceeds then he throws it at the nearest person or horse, so I don't think that it is anything to worry about!:)

Kina always starts her dinner, rolls half way through with her head in the bucket......you never know someone might nick it while she 's rolling.

Then carry on eating her dins lying down!

My shettie always does it, wherever he is, lies down and eats away. Over the years its given rise to a few panics by well meaning people who dont know him. Unless your horse seems unhappy, it doesnt seem like much of a problem to me.

Best of luck
