Sham has them :( One on one ear, two on his other, one on his cheek, one on his shoulder, none on sheath or under tail yet. Vet advised to leave them be as they are the small sort, and said as fast as she takes them out they just pop up elsewhere. Just have to keep everything crossed they don't appear in tack areas or get bigger or worse I suppose, she mentioned secondary infections if they get rubbed etc. So....I have a lumpy pony, to get lumpier. Anyone else with a grey that has them, good or bad tales about them please:) I am hoping I am right not to worry unduly and it's just one of those things:confused:

i've known a lot with them - i believe that they are common enough that pretty much every grey horse will get them if they live long enough. AFAIK the under tail/sheath ones are most serious as they can have corresponding internam ones that get in the way.
as the vet said, just keep an eye and look out for them under tack or on bits.

I knew a grey with a HUGE lump on the side of her face. Apparently it was benign (sp?). It never botherd her. Just reduced her price when they had to seel due to moving abroad...

Hugs for you and Sham. You will get through this ok...:)

I bought a hunter with a huge one on his sheath. They are just something that g0 with greys. It could kill him tomorrow, he could go on for years!

Don't worry Perdita.M, this is a tale that will forsure make you smile.

Cherry is 38, and a grey and when I got him he had a huge golf ball sized lump on left side shoulder, and a smaller lump on his neck. Though he still has both of them, they decreased majorly is size. I believe the sun causes them? Though I could be wrong, so I always ensure on hot days, there is somewhere that Cherokee can go in the shade, or bring him in to the barn for a bit to groom him and cool off. I have found this made a huge difference.

The bumps have not grown, and decreased in size since I first got him 4 years ago.

There was a medication he was on, that if the lumps got big, the previous owners gave him, I didn't find it made that much of a difference, but I can try to figure out what it was called.

The golf sized bump currently is the size of maybe a small thumb tack now (sorry couldn't really think of anything to compare it to).

Don't worry she'll be fine!:)

Thank you:) Vet advised to leave them too unless they grew very big or were in tack areas or he kept knocking them etc. So far, they haven't caused any problems at all, so I hope they stay that way!

do you mean Melanoma's or Sarcoids as they're not the same thing

The grey mare I was riding when I fist put Mocha in foal had aggressive multiplying ones which were treated very sucessfully with homeopathic medicine. Since I was riding her her owber gave them to me to adminster. She got one small tablet crushed in a 10ml syringe of water everyday for a week, then a gap week, then another week of tablets. They shrivelled up after a forthnight, not gone but much smaller and no new ones.

Homeopathy person comes and has a look at your horse, and determines the problem. She goes off then and about a week later you get the 'tablets' in an envelope in the post. They look like little silica balls, tiny. No ingredients, no name etc
The owner said shes had her out for lots of different ailments and the tablets all look them same but have different things in them. She got ones for herself too

I was hugely sceptical... but it worked!
