Since moving our pair home they appear to have learnt that without much difficulty they can break away from their ring ties:eek: Storm gets spooked easily - and has broken away quite a lot recently (its been windy - thats her excuse:p  ) but now JOe appears to have realised that its only a bit of bailer twine holding him in place - plus he carefully (when you're not llooking of course) unties his leadrope. He gets worked up when the farmer comes to round up the sheep - all the dogs working etc, unsettles him which is understandable. Only thing is I cannot predict when this is going to happen, and he just gets so wound up and won't stand and breaks free after doing a lot of dancing. Will he get used to it? Do you think there is anything I can do stop him breaking free? Worried that one day he'll gallop off with the leadrope dangling - into the field. sorry for long post. Any ideas welcome thanks.:) ps, was reading another post about a new horse that won't stand, its prompted me, to write this - but my pair aren't new - just naughty at the mo!:o

Monty Robert's technique for horses that run back includes having a lunge line running through a very secure tie ring and letting them fight it without breaking free. You hold the other end of the line to let it give with the movement and there is a semicircular fence enclosed around. This is a VERY breif description of it but i believe it works well without causing harm. The fact that they can break away is good untill they learn they can do it whenever like you said. Look up this technique and see whether it may be something you could consider. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that - will have to look it up - its not every single time they are breaking free, just at the moment there seems to be a lot of "distractions" - they've only been in their new home just over a month, so I guess its a lot to take in.
