Well i thought i'd ask whether anyone has got any handy exercises to help me with a pony i've been riding for the last 9 months for someone.
She's a lovely 14.2 cob x who hasn't got a nasty bone in her body. She's a genuine little mare who is proper gung ho esp. when out and about. I've bloodhounded her a few times and she's great fun but she sadly lacks the suppleness and bend in her schooling and i think this is where she finds her jumping a little difficult. The girl who owns her is young and just wants to kick and point (which is absolutely fair enough as it's her mare) but they've agreed i can start to do a bit more jumping on her e.g x country etc. but i'd like to help her with her schooling first otherwise i don't think it's fair on the mare. She's coming along okay in her schooling with regards to working from behind and bending but would like to try and do some jumping exercises with her to try and get her bending a little more. Would gridwork help or would i need to do a figure of eight jump course so she gets used to having to bend round corners before and after jumps etc? The idea is just to get her out of this oh jump charge (because of the kick and point thing) and get her listening a little more and bending properly into the fences. Kick and points is great is you're a kid and the fence is a straight forward one but sometimes out hunting we've come into a narrow or bending fence and it's been a bit hairy :)
