Hi. one of my horses, a coloured cob, seemed to have mud fever at the beginning of winter. He seemed to have yellow scabby skin with redness underneath - i clipped his feathers off and washed his legs down and put mud fever stuff on which seemed to make him feel better.

However he still has it and i've noticed he chews at it and stamps his feet - so i'm wondering if it ever was mud fever and if its mites?? How can i get rid of it?? Whats a mite injection??

thanks

the injection is something you get fro mthe vet, it's called dectomax. usually knocks them on the head in no time. frontline applied topically normally works too.
it does sound more like mites, with the chewing and stamping.

Mites biting the skin cause the itching and stamping and also open the skin to allow the mud fever bacteria to get in - there is a good chance is he has mites your original mud fever diagnosis was also correct.
I just got Frontline (dog flea stuff) and doused my guys legs and that did the job.
