But, but, but....I might be happy to walk her up from the field to the yard like that, but I'm still too chicken to canter on a hack... PLEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSEEE dont' take my nervous nelly badge... I'll have no excuse for not cantering if you do:eek:
Mind you, I did hop on an 'unknown' 16.3hh TB and take him for a hack today, so I guess I could be downgraded to 'slightly nervous of certain things nelly':D

I realised the other day I need a downgrade too HC - you are not alone ;)
Spent the weekend flat out across the welsh hills without a care in the world, including having to drive off a mountain stallion (riding the biggest horse, only one not having a panic attack) and staying back with another lady and leading her down the (steep and bumpy) hill while she was nearly in tears (hills used to be my bete noire) without even thinking that _my_ horse might nap to the others.
Followed by a hack during which the faintest suggestion of anything other than walk was met with a BIG bucking fit and a short bolt, then serious foot-plant-won't-move napping and finally a couple of dramatic trips where my horse went all the way down to knees and chin (I should add that at this point I dismounted and walked her home as it was obvious something was not at all right!). Never fell and wasn't even nervous - just concerned about the horse! It wasn't until the receptionist asked me if I was ok that I realised I seem to no longer be a scaredy cat....
Do we get some sort of certificate?

I 'm still here,,ok well sort'a of. Not riding like I used to yet. But still in the NN club.
Now for the sort riding a pretty grey horse.
Let me just say.. riding without a helmet..even for a short ride..is not a good thing.
I did a very short ride..even with saddle and bit...and lets just say..the helmet saved me from having a broken skull on that last ride. Seen people with brain damage from riding accidents..if they did not out and out die..its pretty scary stuff.

Thankyou for your advice and concern ShariN. I know that riding without tack or helmet is neither big nor clever and I would not suggest anyone else does it.
However, I am 35years old and perfectly capable of conducting my own risk assessment and deciding what risks I am prepared to take. I have also had my life saved by a helmet, so believe me, I do not ride her like that flippantly. I have risk assessed the general situation (and as I am doing formal risk assessments daily for my job, I know how;) ), and risk assess every time before I get on her like that regarding her mood, mine, potential hazzards, the weather etc, and decide then wether to take the risk or not.
Believe me, if I fall off I won't be blaming anyone but myself.

I have turned into a rather large Mother Hen since my accident. Just do not want to see anyone else get hurt.;)
