Dont know if this has been asked before but does putting a black mare to a black stallion guarantee a black foal. Personally I dont think so but would welcome any information on the subject. Also might black stallion bay mare produce black?

Black x black doesn't guarantee a black foal, unless both parents carry two copies of black. A horse only needs one copy of black to be visually black; so both black parents could be hiding a red (chestnut) gene too... in which case you also have a chance of a chestnut foal.
But if one or both parents are homozygous for black (ie no hidden chestnut genes to pass on) you'll get a black foal every time.
Black x bay can give you black; but could also give bay or chestnut, depending on how many of what colour alleles each parent carries.

Chev, if you've got a chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail, (she's on the advert for the live screensaver) how could you get a palomino? Both parents were chestnut, her maternal grandparents and her paternal grandfather. She has one bay grandma, then after that she has black and mostly chestnut, so what would be the best way?

Best way is use a cremello stallion - that way you're guaranteed a palomino foal. Otherwise, you'd need to use a palomino on her, which gives you a 50/50 chance of palomino.

Okay Chev, look out for a cremello, 40 plus inch Shetland stallion for me, .......and then go and clear up all that rocking horse poo and hen's teeth! :D :D

Don't think you get cremello Welsh D's so it will have to be a palomino! :D

There are indeed Cremello Welsh... Any breed that carries cream (palomino and buckskin) will also carry cremello - it's the same gene.

Terackie stud in Mid Wales have one, Terackie Winter Shadow, think all his offspring have been palomino to various palomino/chestnut mares.
Then there was the Dwyfor Stud who had 4 in the Builth Cob sales one year, all ridden, what a sight:)
If black mare x black stallion guaranteed a black foal, then I'd definately be putting my 2 girls to blacks, not the pally and liver I've used/using:D

I owned a cremello Welsh B for a short time. Nah black to black sadly doesn't guarantee a black foal. The chances of a black foal though if the ponies happen to be Fells or Dales (black to black) is quite high though for some reason.
