Hi im sort of new, I was on this site a lot last year but not much since then as my horse alfie had lymes and so needed much looking after. All better now, here we are hacking out in the New Forest which is where he is kept. It was a lovely sunny winters day! Not like this summer weather we are having now!!!!

That's interesting, I'm off to see a 13.2 welsh x arab as a loan pony (bombproof chap to take out with my twit of a TB), I'm 5.4 and less than 10st, so maybe he wont be too small.

Hi
I have been a watcher on this forum for awhile, so i thought i should post
This is my welsh sec b mare Glendale Oh My aka May. This was taken a couple of years ago now when she was learning to jump (although we haven't done much since).
Missing riding her atm. She is in foal, due in November. Its her first foal and mine. It very exiciting as i brought her as a weanling and i hoped to breed from her some day.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z90/topsey_/May1611062.jpg

and this is my exiciting new pony which i purchased a couple of months ago, Willowview Ffansi That aka Ffansi. she is a welsh sec c rising 2 yr filly. This photo doesn't show her off to her best, she is blonde, strawberry roan with 4 white socks, a blaze and top it off a blue eye (can't see it in this photo) so come summer she will look stunning

surely its still far too late?.
For example for showing purposes they are classed as 'one' the year after birth, it would look extremely imature next to anything else born in the same year. Or does it not work like that in NZ.

but all horses in NZ are more likely to be born novemberish as that is spring so they'd only look immature compared to northern hemisphere horses which they are unlikely to show against... surely showing will be nov-feb sort of time instead of april-sep time

hi
yep november is spring and def. not too late for foaling.
with tbs their breeding season starts well today actually (1st Sept) with foals being born from 1st August which is their official birth date. sport horses and ponies tend to be born a bit later. I think oct/nov would be when most of our foals are born
yep our show season is from oct to March/april. for showing purposes they are considered to a yearling after 1st august the following season (being that some foals aren't born until late jan/feb and they would look immature compared with foal born in spring).

New TP pic ... I think I am deciding to sell her on now as she is eaasily capable of jumping much higher - but with me, I have to limit her to 2ft ... hmmm ... it'll probably take me five years or so to find a kid 'good enough' for my girl though :D

This is Bunny he is 23 years old and i have been riding him since he was broken in so we have been together alone time. I loan him from riding school i learnt at when i was 11 years old. I learnt to ride on his nan and grandad, and then took bunny under my wing once he was broken and the rest they say is history. We have had a lot of fun together.

I am 5,3 and weight 10 1/2 stone... I don't care if people say i am too big for him, as he shows no sign i am and is very happy to carry me about...

Everyone looks so lovely on their ponies... so nice to know i am not the only one. No one else at my yard rides ponies so we do look odd when we all ride out but i am happy and so is my bunny!!!

Some beautiful ponies here who all look perfectly able to carry their adult riders :)

This is me when I was 18 riding one of the RS ponies - not sure how big Sparky (aptly named) was but standing on the ground I (I'm 5ft 4/5ft 5 ish) could comfortably see over the top of her back so I reckon she must be around the 13hh mark. I'm 23 now and don't weigh any more now than I did then (8st) so now I've started riding again I'd quite happily ride something this size again. Ended up on a few huuuge horses when I was at uni and decided I much prefer being nearer the ground :)

Excuse the not very good riding postion, had just come out of a lesson and Sparky could see her mum out in the field so she was a little excitable!

This is me on my previous (RIP) exmoor, Kieran. We were doing pony club games (I am an adult, honestly, but it's the ponies that make you want to do things like this) and this was his fav bit - galloping back to the start!

I should also qualify that it was the 'dressing up' game and not my usual riding outfit.

Kieran was 13hh, and I'm 5'2", and weigh 9.5 stone.

Aww thanks. I miss him so much and he was very cute! Certainly no problem with galloping as fast as possible with me or anyone heavier than me. He carried a friend who was around 5'7" around a XC course once! And was still raring to go at the end.
The next Exmoor should be arriving fairly soon - 4 years after I lost my boy. Hopefully he will be as much fun.

I have read this with so much interested.. 2.5 years ago mym Mum rescued a pony barely a year old stuck on the side of the rode.. She brought him and he was added to my family. He was tiny, barely 10hh, full of worms and in a bad way..

The comments from EVERYONE where "What are you going to do with that, he will always be too small to ride" And you know what even when I backed him this summer I have been wonder the same thing myself.. Was he too small ? Am I too big.. I mean you worry about these things because you care, the last thing you want to do is hurt your baby.. And even after my saddler, vet, farrier and instructor told me I would be fine I still worried.. Why ?? Because I seemed to be the only fool on a pony everyone I know has great big giants, I myself also have a 16'1 tb and a 16'2 shire cross.. But reading this I have finally started to see, I am not mad, at 5'4 and 9st my native NF x can indeed carry me..

Thanks too all those that have posted pics its made my day.. All those that look down on me for riding my wee man can eat my dust.. Bring on next spring when he can start some more training... Some pic of my boy when as a 3 year old..
